Who we are and what we do
g.e.b.b. is a company of the Ministry of Defence (BMVg) based in Cologne. Our task is to reorganise civilian services for the Bundeswehr in order to ensure that these services are provided in a more efficient manner. In addition, we advise the BMVg in all questions of efficiency.
The aims of our work
Our aim is to reinforce the Bundeswehr in fulfilling its military core tasks by relieving them from non-military service tasks. And we want to create new investment scope for the Bundeswehr, by achieving a clear reduction in operating costs, less capital being invested up and by mobilising private sector capital. In addition, we want to generate proceeds and open up new sources of earnings.
Our role in the process of modernising the Bundeswehr
g.e.b.b. plays a key role in the process of modernising the Bundeswehr. It is the central driving force for increasing efficiency. It focuses on supporting the BMVg by providing private industry know-how for the corporate conversion of service functions in the Bundeswehr and implementing partnerships with private industry. g.e.b.b. operates independently, is active under its own initiative and has the scope and freedom to develop privatisation projects under its own responsibility.
The joint modernisation projects by g.e.b.b. and BMVg are successful
The most important instrument for measuring success is the performance record, which is drawn up anew every year. It features all costs incurred in the context of g.e.b.b.'s work and, on the other hand, presents the calculated decrease in expenditure for the defence budget. The balance of transactions shows that g.e.b.b. already reached the breakeven point in the second full financial year following its establishment. In 2002, the decrease in expenditure was equivalent to three time the costs. Since then, this performance with greater efficiency has not only been repeated but increased considerably from year to year.
